Finance
In
finance,
investment=cost
of
capital,
like
buying
securities
or
other
monetary
or
paper
(financial)
assets
in
the
money
markets
or
capital
markets,
or in
fairly
liquid
real
assets,
such
as
gold,
real
estate,
or
collectibles.
Types
of
financial
investments
include
shares,
other
equity
investment,
and
bonds
(including
bonds
denominated
in
foreign
currencies).
These
financial
assets
are
then
expected
to
provide
incomee
or
positive
future
cash
flows,
and
may
increase
or
decrease
in
value
giving
the investor
capital
gains
or
losses.
Trades
in
contingent
claims
or
derivative
securities
do
not
necessarily
have
future
positive
expected
cash
flows,
and
so
are
not
considered
assets,
or
strictly
speaking,
securities
or
investments.
Nevertheless,
since
their
cash
flows
are
closely
related
to
(or
derived
from)
those
of
specific
securities,
they
are
often
studied
as or
treated
as
investments.
Investments
are
often
made
indirectly
through
intermediaries,
such
as
banks,
mutual
funds,
pension
funds,
insurance
companies,
collective
investment
schemes,
and
investment
clubs.
Though
their
legal
and
procedural
details
differ,
an
intermediary
generally
makes
an
investment
using
money
from
many
individuals,
each
of
whom
receives
a
claim
on
the
intermediary.

Personal
finance
Within
personal
finance,
money
used
to
purchase
shares,
put
in a
collective
investment
scheme
or
used
to
buy
any
asset
where
there
is an
element
of
capital
risk
is
deemed
an
investment.
Saving
within
personal
finance
refers
to
money
put
aside,
normally
on a
regular
basis.
This
distinction
is
important,
as
investment
risk
can
cause
a
capital
loss
when
an
investment
is
realized,
unlike
saving(s)
where
the
more
limited
risk
is
cash
devaluing
due
to
inflation.
In
many
instances
the
terms
saving
and
investment
are
used
interchangeably,
which
confuses
this
distinction.
For
example
many
deposit
accounts
are
labeled
as
investment
accounts
by
banks
for
marketing
purposes.
Whether
an
asset
is a
saving(s)
or an
investment
depends
on
where
the
money
is
invested:
if it
is
cash
then
it is
savings,
if
its
value
can
fluctuate
then
it is
investment.

Investing
like
Warren
Buffett
is
neither
an
art
nor a
science.
Rather,
it is
a
study
of
human
nature
and a
willingness
to
follow
a
(земной)
path.
As
the
(Оракул
из
Омахи)
has
proved,
boring
does
not
equal
unprofitable.
His
investments
often
reflect
the
most
basic
products
and
services,
ranging
from
(потребительских
товаров)
like
razor
blades
and
(моющее
средство)
to
(безалкогольных
напитков)
and
automobile
insurance.
A
basic
(принцип)
of
Buffett's
strategy
is to
invest
in
companies
he
believes
will
provide
a
(долгосрочное)
value
investment,
rather
than
investing
in
(причуды)
or
technologies
that
may
be
profitable
in
the
short
run
but are
likely
to become
(устаревшими)
in
the
(в
обозримом
будущем)
. His
investments
are
guided
by
his
famous
words:
"It's
far
better
to
buy a
wonderful
company
at a
fair
price
than
a
fair
company
at a
wonderful
price."
Choosing
Investments
With
Long-Term
Value
In
1987,
Buffett
famously
stated,
"I'll
tell
you
why I
like
the
cigarette
business.
It
costs
a
penny
to
make.
Sell
it
for a
dollar.
It's
(увлекательно).
And
there's
fantastic
brand
loyalty."
While
he
later
stated
that
the
tobacco
industry
was
burdened
with
issues
that
made
him
change
his
opinion
of
it,
this
statement
sums
up
Buffett's
description
of
the
perfect
investment.
Buffett's
holding
company,
Berkshire
Hathaway,
has a
portfolio
that
contains
both
wholly
owned
((филиалы),
such
as
Geico
Auto
Insurance
and
Benjamin
Moore
&
Co.,
and
sizable
blocks
of
shares
in
publicly
traded
corporations.
For
example,
Berkshire
Hathaway
is
the
largest
shareholder
of
both
Coca
Cola
and
Kraft
Foods,
brands
that
are
(повсеместно
распространены)
throughout
America's
supermarkets.
While
these
investments
are
profitable,
Buffett's
most
(бесхитростными)
picks
were
his
purchases
of
See's
Candy
and
Gillette.
Both
were
so
seemingly
ordinary
that
they
belied
their
market
shares
and
their
capacity
to
generate
profits
(о
которых
многие
компании
только
мечтают).

Тренинги
по
деловому
английскому
и
экспресс-грамматике
(сентябрь,
Москва)
Новая
рассылка
"D'
you
speak
English?
-
Yes,
I
do!"
На
вопрос
"D'you
speak
English?"
не
каждый
быстро
и
уверенно
сможет
ответить
"Yes,I
do!",
потому
что
после
этого
вопроса
могут
последовать
другие,
и не
исключено,
что
самые
неожиданные.
Если
добавить,
что
говорить
нужно
по-английски,
то
даже
обычная,
ни к
чему
не
обязывающая
беседа
может
показаться
настоящим
испытанием:
все
слова
и
фразы,
которые
заучивались
на
уроках,
сразу
же
вылетают
из
головы,
пауза,
во
время
которой
нужно
вспомнить
хоть
что-нибудь,
тянется
мучительно
долго,
а
желание
поддержать
беседу
вступает
в
противоречие
с
инстинктом
"правильной
грамматики".
Какие
могут
возникать
ситуации
на
работе,
дома,
на
улице
и
везде,
где
мы
бываем,
и что
следует
говорить?
Будем
тренироваться.
